What Is Neuromuscular Dentistry?

Neuromuscular dentistry focuses on aligning the jaw joint (TMJ) and muscles in harmony with your bite. When your jaw is out of alignment, it can cause:

  • Neck & shoulder tension
  • Teeth grinding or clenching (Bruxism)
  • Facial asymmetry or worn teeth

We use advanced diagnostics to find your ideal jaw position and restore natural function, pain-free and balanced.

FAQ

What is myofunctional therapy, and how does it work?

Myofunctional therapy (MFT) is a science-based program of exercises aimed at retraining the muscles of the tongue, lips, cheeks, and face. Its goal is to restore optimal function in breathing, swallowing, chewing, and tongue posture by correcting dysfunctional habits (like tongue thrusting, mouth breathing, or poor tongue posture).

Who can benefit from myofunctional therapy?
  • Children who have oral habits or restrictions (e.g. mouth breathing, tongue-tie, inability to keep lips sealed)

  • Kids who snore, grind teeth, or have speech issues

  • Adults with chronic snoring, sleep apnoea, or TMJ/jaw discomfort

  • Orthodontic patients wanting to prevent relapse

  • Individuals with poor breathing habits, fatigue, or low energy

How is myofunctional therapy integrated into airway dentistry at Kigo Dental?

At Kigo Dental’s Airway Dentistry India Centre:

  • Every patient is given a detailed airway & functional evaluation (tongue mobility, breathing patterns, jaw alignment, oral habits).

  • Based on this, a customized therapy plan (exercises, training, follow-ups) is prescribed.

  • For children, early intervention supports proper growth, sleep, speech.

  • For adults, MFT can be combined with other airway treatments (e.g. orthodontics, appliances) to ensure long-term stability of results.

What improvements or outcomes can be expected with myofunctional therapy?
  • Better nasal breathing and reduced mouth breathing

  • Reduction in snoring and improvement in sleep quality

  • Support for orthodontic treatments, reducing the risk of relapse

  • More balanced facial growth (especially in children)

  • Improved coordination of oral muscles for swallowing, tongue posture, and overall oral function
